For years I’ve wanted to know more about how our ROBE products were helping people with their hair health and confidence. Then one day, while washing my hair in the shower (!) I had an idea – I'd create a study with one simple aim – to track how ROBE products worked on real people with real hair challenges. I thought it would be a one-off exercise and a great way to learn more about my customers and their needs, while hopefully finding opportunities to improve our products and the brand along the way. While I anticipated a range of potential results, what I didn’t expect was just how fulfilling and important this little project would eventually become.
Getting Started (and Nearly Giving Up)
At first, I hoped to find 4–5 people willing to take part in the study. I asked friends who owned salons if they had clients who might be interested, but the response was… silence. I started thinking about other ways to get participants before eventually sending an email to our ROBE newsletter community. I reached out to those who had been on our journey with us for a while but never used the products before. My goal was to find people curious about improving their hair health, without the bias of any prior experience with ROBE.
Within days, my inbox was overflowing. I suddenly had a group of 15 participants — including a husband-and-wife team, all eager to begin their hair journey with ROBE. It was my first sign that this project might grow to be bigger than I’d ever imagined.
The Study in Motion
While each participant had a unique starting point: (post-partum hair loss, post-surgery hair changes, androgenic alopecia, trichotillomania, thinning, breakage), these different stories featured one common thread — a person with the desire to feel better about their hair.
To get started, I created a tailored usage plan for each of them — from frequency to application tips, and ways to weave the products into their routines. Participants agreed to use only ROBE products during the study, send progress photos, and provide updates every couple of weeks. With each piece of feedback and insight, I also provided my expert guidance with participants based on their progress photos.
Midway through the study, I sent a detailed survey to those within the study filled with multiple-choice questions, linear scales, and open-ended reflections. Looking back, I wish I’d sent a baseline survey before they began — but even so, the responses were more powerful than I could have imagined.
The Results So Far
The midway check-in results blew me away. ROBE wasn’t just meeting expectations — it was exceeding them.
Here are just a few highlights that I wanted to share with you all:
Shedding/hairloss 90% noticed less shedding
Thickness 100% reported improvement
Strength/Breakage 100% saw stronger hair
Growth Rate 91% noticed faster growth
Frizz Control 100% improved
Shine 92% saw more shine
Overall Hair Health 100% improved
Enjoyment of Routine 100% said they now enjoy their haircare routine.
Reading the feedback was emotional. Emails poured in describing how much better participants felt about their hair, and about themselves.
More Than Just a Study
What surprised me most about the study wasn’t just the numbers — it was the connection I suddenly had with so many of you. Each participant started this journey as a stranger but over the weeks that followed, they became friends. We’ve shared stories of frustration and celebration, and bonded over the joy of seeing visible improvements in their hair health. In the case of some transformations — hair started growing back after years of thinning — and this has left me completely lost for words.
Running this study hasn’t been easy. It added hours of work to my already busy weeks, and I had to teach myself how to create new processes along the way. But instead of draining me, it filled my cup. Sharing in the journey directly with participants meant I got to feel their excitement right alongside them, every time a progress photo landed in my inbox.
What It Means for ROBE
I can say without a doubt: running the ROBE Hair Health Study has been one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done.
It confirmed that ROBE products don’t just deliver results on paper, they genuinely change the way people feel about themselves. It deepened my belief in what I’m building and reminded me that ROBE isn’t just about haircare. It’s about confidence, connection, and community.
And this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to share more as the study continues, and I hope the results inspire others to see what’s truly possible with ROBE.
